School Committee Meeting Minutes
6 February 2026
School Committee Chair Commissioner Judy Pruett opened the meeting asking Commissioner Roger Reedy to offer a prayer and lead the pledge. Public was asked if there were any comments on the agenda and there were none. The minutes of 12 January 2026 were moved for approval by Commissioner Matthew Hopkins, seconded by Commissioner Matt Rubelsky, and were approved unanimously
First agenda item – Budget Amendments. The Chair asked Director of Schools Dr. Vickie Beard to provide any comments on the proposed budget amendments. She addressed the following: The amendment included Health Services, Technology, two grants, an early literacy tutoring grant (for both before and after school), and a tutoring innovation grant, and a TNTP comprehensive literacy grant (partially approved previously with this being presented as the potential to enter into the services agreement). A motion to approve was made by Commissioner Terry Jones, seconded by Commissioner Rickie Carpenter and was approved. Re the TNTP agreement, Director Beard addressed some issues with the timing of the period covered in the grant as well as the staffing requirements. The grant which covers 5 years is for $450K with $50K of that coming to the schools and the balance going to the vendor. By year the amount would be $90K with $10K to the schools and $85K to the vendor per those 5 years. The grant, per Director Beard, was approved the previous night by the school board with the caveat that there are still some questions to be resolved. For the timing of the grant there is about 20 days to meet the requirements of the grant and requires the staff to step out of their regular duties to accomplish. The approval of the above motion was amended with the understanding the timing of this meeting until going to the full legislative body will allow Dr. Beard time to resolve some of the issues which can then be provided at the full legislative meeting. With no public comment the amended motion was approved unanimously.
Any New business – Director Beard noted a ribbon cutting would take place on the 13th of March at 10:00 a.m. at Bridgeforth.
Motion to adjourn was made by Commissioner Matthew Hopkins, seconded by Commissioner Matt Rubelsky, and was approved unanimously.
